If you are like me your mind is racing with a gazillion things to do from bulletin boards and communication, to pacing guides and the inevitable lesson plans. Start by getting your thoughts organized in a way that you’re not stuck in overdrive all day, every day and through the night.
First step: Trello! I love storyboards and use them for everything to help visualize and create a plan of action. Trello does this for you by allowing you to create organized lists that can be titled, dated and check listed. I have mine set up as “To Do,” “Shopping/Order,” “Professional Development,” and “Done.” It's designed as simple columns that are easy to break down and follow. When you click on each one it provides a place to create a checklist, dated reminders and links or contacts related. This is killer because I set myself a prioritizing tool and assign a date to the item for my own accountability. BAM!
Trello is simple to use and easy to share with colleagues or friends that you may be collaborating with on a project. As I find ideas on the web, on Pinterest or in reading a plethora of other things I can put it in Trello as an action item and let it take up space there instead of my head. It also is a great reference tool. For example, as I finish PD I can attach my certificates of completion to the board for easy access. I can do this with pictures of bulletin boards or anchor charts too.
Perhaps the best part is that I can access Trello from any device. It’s a website and has an app for your phone or tablet. Start organizing your thoughts and don’t let your mind race wear you down before the year even starts!
